The Berean Community and Family Life Center (BCFLC) is a first of its kind in New York City for a faith-based organization that focuses on health and wellness for adults and children. This unique Center currently houses a medical clinic with highly respected physicians in podiatry, gastroenterology (GI specialty), along with pediatricians, internists, obstetrician/gynecologists, physical therapists and a nutritionist.
Created as a 501 (c)(3) community development corporation by the historic Berean Baptist Church in theWeeksville/Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, BCFLC sits on a solid foundation. As health statistics became more available and evident, and the increased number of community residents, family members and friends dying from heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and obesity became more noticeable, BCFLC decided to do something about it and set out on a mission.
BCFLC now offers a six-week program for adults “Life Cycle.” This program is designed to not only deal with diet and exercise as other programs, but to get to the source of what drives the person to eat improperly, neglect medical treatment and avoid exercise and proper fitness. An additional program was launched for children age 8 to 13 – “Weigh to go kids!” and Go Teens Go for teenagers. Many children today suffer from adult diseases and obesity that can be prevented with dietary changes and physical activity.
As we expand our services, we continue to fulfill our mission of embracing the whole person with hearts of love and hands of hope. |
